Meet Bailey B. R. Maddox (she/her)
Bailey B. R. Maddox is a Lipedema Therapist at The Supine Studio. Unbeknownst to her, she began working with lipedema in 2017, using her massage skills to help women manage pain. It wasn’t until 2021, during her Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Certification, that she first learned of lipedema—on a single slide. Later, during her Lymphedema Certification, she found only a brief mention of how advanced stages present, with little discussion on how to effectively support patients.
The lack of guidance drove Bailey to immerse herself in research, ultimately developing her own protocols for both conservative care and post-operative recovery following Lipedema Reduction Surgery. Her protocols are informed by research and refined through hands-on experience with patients from Hagopian Plastic Surgery, Advanced Lipedema Treatment, and Lipedema Surgical Solutions.

Bailey has presented Lipedema Reduction Surgery: Therapist Protocols for the National Lymphedema Network (NLN) and at the 2025 Fat Disorders Resource Society Conference. Her presentation is also included in the NLN’s on-demand education for its members. Additionally, she serves as the NLN’s Clinical Group Facilitator for Lipedema.
For clients, she created the Lipedema Resource Guide, compiling extensive research and practical insights. This guide will be available to all women with lipedema in late 2025. To support fellow therapists, she founded an online peer-support group dedicated to advancing care for lipedema patients.
Bailey is an LGBTQ+ affirming massage therapist and was gubernatorially appointed to the South Carolina Board of Massage Therapy in 2024. She is an active member of several lipedema organizations, including the American Lipedema Association, National Lymphedema Network, Lipedema Education Group, and the International Lipoedema Association. She also serves as a Board Member for the Southeastern College Massage Program Advisory Board.
